Interphase
In the cell cycle there are multiple stages. The first and longest stage is interphase.
Interphase is the time when a cell is growing and preparing for cell division.
1st stage of the cell cycle
Longest stage of the cell cycle
Longest stage of the cell cycle
- Duplicates DNA
- Produces more organelles
- Growth + Preparation for cell division
There are several sub-phases to Interphase:
G1
1st sub-phase
Growth in size &
mRNA and proteins
are synthesized

Switch! S or G0?
There is a choice to be made:
Things like food, energy, temperature and activity cause the switch.
There is a choice to be made:
- If everything is going normally, go to S.
- If something is wrong, go to G0!
Things like food, energy, temperature and activity cause the switch.
G0
"Hibernation" or Death
The cell cycle stops
Sometimes this means death
or the cell just continues functioning normally.

S
DNA Duplication
The cell's DNA is duplicated.

G2
Final sub-stage
Proteins that are needed for mitosis are synthesized.
DNA damage (errors) made in sub-stage S are
attempted to be repaired
