Mitosis
There are several sub-stages/phases of Mitosis.
- 2nd stage of the cell cycle
- has 4 sub-stages/phases
- Results in 2 nuclei
- DNA distribution between 2 daughter cells
Prophase- First sub-stage/phase of Mitosis
- Chromosomes condense
Centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell - Spindle fibers form between the ends of the cell
The nuclear envelope dissolves
- Metaphase
- 2nd sub-stage/phase of Mitosis.
- Chromosomes attach to spindle fibers
- Chromosomes align in the center of the cell
- Anaphase
- 3rd sub-stage/phase of Mitosis.
- Centromere splits
- The chromatids split, and are now called chromosomes
- Pulled to opposite ends of the now stretched cell
- Telophase
- 4th and last sub-stage/phase of Mitosis
- Nuclear envelopes form
- Spindle Fibers disperse
